With a generous, wide-open heart, James Humphrey was genuinely rich in his being. With vibrancy and enthusiasm, he entered his days and if you met Humphrey, you weren’t a stranger for very long. Humphrey’s commitment to breaking the cycle of child abuse in his life—through his writing, teaching and living—led to the creation of a body of work that continues to influence and inspire.

The James Humphrey Trust has been created to make Humphrey’s legacy available and to manage the assets in a way Humphrey would have approved. Currently, the Trust continues to keep Humphrey’s work alive, having just completed an audio compilation (Argument For Love, The Poetry Readings) of Humphrey reading early published and unpublished poems. Also, the re-launch of this website serves as a window to his life work.

With the profit earned from the sale of both, Argument for Love, and Naked: Poems Selected and New, 1969-2006 (anthology, ’06), The James Humphrey Trust will donate to Prevent Child Abuse/America, an organization dedicated to fostering the prevention of child abuse.
